Recently in the US, Amazon has teamed up with 7-11 to test a new concept which offers customers the possibility to pick up goods ordered online or on mobile phones at local convenient stores with the verification code sent to mobiles. Since logistics and warehousing cost could be greatly reduced in this way and customers would be happy to fetch their goods in a more convenient and efficient way, this can be a good business mode for large e-commerce companies such as Taobao, 360Buy, Dangdang....However, initiating this mode in China will inevitably encounter many challenges and difficulties. For instance, the penetration rate of smartphones in China is not high (clients’ mobiles don’t support 2-dimensional bar code); impossible to define responsibility for damages; problems of balancing between the flow rate of goods at convenient stores and storage space...
Which city in China do you think would be the best location to promote this business mode? Which convenient stores would be the best partners? What are the biggest challenges?
